Ephesians 1: 1 “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful IN CHRIST JESUS: 2 GRACE to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing IN THE HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST, 4 just as He chose us IN HIM before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons THROUGH JESUS CHRIST to Himself, ACCORDING TO the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His GRACE, which He freely bestowed on us IN THE BELOVED.” (NASB)

The life of Adam and Eve before the fall was sustained by what New Testament Believers know as Eternal Life. According to the Apostolic Polyglot Bible w/Strong’s numbers:

Gen. 2: 7 reads like this: “AndG2532 God shapedG4111 G3588 G2316 theG3588 man,G444 [2dustG5522 1taking]G2983 fromG575 theG3588 earth.G1093 AndG2532 he breathedG1720 intoG1519 G3588 his faceG4383 G1473 breathG4157 of life,G2222 andG2532 [2becameG1096 G3588 1man]G444 aG1519 [2soulG5590 1living].G2198

For those of you who have never seen a Bible with Strong’s numbers you have now. The numbers represent the Greek equivalent to The Hebrew words so don’t let that confuse you. Next to the word ‘life’ is the letter and number G2222, which is the Greek word ‘zōē’. That word is the same word used 133 times in The New Testament (KJV), and is usually accompanied with the word Eternal or Everlasting. We often think of as just living forever, immortality, or what we will have when we get to heaven. While these things are true, there is so a lot more to it than that. This is an exert from W. E. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old & New Testament Words on ‘zoe’:s

  1. zoe (G2222) (Eng., “zoo,” “zoology”) is used in the NT “of life as a principle, life in the absolute sense, life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself, and which He gave to the Incarnate Son to have in Himself, Joh_5:26, and which the Son manifested in the world, 1Jn_1:2. From this life man has become alienated in consequence of the Fall, Eph_4:18, and of this life men become partakers through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Joh_3:15,”

This is “the breath of life” that God breathed into the face or nostrils of Adam, which was shared with his wife Eve who was taken from one of his ribs. What’s fascinating about this zoe is, even though Adam transgressed The Law of God and fell from Grace, that one puff of breath from God gave him 930 years of ‘psuchē’ (soul life). The Tree of life (same word, zoe) would have been the source of that life forever. The power of one puff of our Father’s breath continued to provide longevity for generations leading up to the life of Noah, the last of the long-lived Patriarchs. He died 350 years after the flood at the age of 950. However, sin has taken its toll on these earthly tents, factoring in Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Therefore, as we accept the truth found in Eph. 1: 3… who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing IN THE HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST”, we shouldn’t have a problem with those blessings made concrete in the physical realm.

Hebrews 11: 1-3 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old gained approval. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.”

As we can see, according to The Word of God, everything our five senses perceive came into being by that which cannot be perceived by those same senses. I would be very careful when it comes to churches that work at making you feel The Holy Spirit, this is not about our feelings, it’s about our knowing…knowing Christ Jesus. These things are clearly understood in Heb. 1: 3 “By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” I’ve often heard the question “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” The Bible is saying God, who is a spiritual being gave birth to every created thing. We have been blessed, past tense, with every spiritual blessing IN THE HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST. I realize that sometimes that statement can be misinterpreted, leaving people with the impression that God only blesses us spiritually. For example, the fruit of the spirit as found in Gal. 5: 22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law,” or the gifts of the spirit in 1 Cor. 12. And we should receive and honor these blessings with much thanksgiving and praise. On the other hand, we are blessed with the very air we breathe. We may not be able to see the air, but it functions on the physical plane by providing oxygen to our lungs and blood supply. This is also applicable to the food we eat, the clothing on our backs, and our dwelling place. James, the brother of our LORD said:

James 1: 17 “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” So, we mustn’t be deceived by lame teachings that insist on the notion that our Heavenly Father is only concerned about our spiritual growth, His concern is for the total man and woman. 1 Thess. 5:23 supports these facts saying: “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” To be continued…
