COMING OUT OF THE SHADOW (NKJV)
Colossians 2:15 “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 WHICH ARE A SHADOW of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.”
Hebrews 10:1 “For the law, HAVING A SHADOW of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. 5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—In the volume of the book it is written of Me—To do Your will, O God.’ ”
No matter what you are going through in this life, always be cognizant of Colossians 2:15. Our LORD Jesus has completely DISARMED the principalities and powers of darkness. In the King James Version, it says “AND HAVING SPOILED”. So if you look at both translations there is really no need to go to the Greek. Whatever authority the principalities and powers had, they no longer have them. You’ve seen movies where the bad guy is pointing a gun at the head of the hero, and the hero does a quick Kung foo like move and takes the weapon away from him, disarming his foe. Jesus allowed Satan to think he had Him, then He turned the tables on his sorry behind. Our King made a public spectacle of it all by defeating death in the presence of everyone. Therefore, no one has the right to judge you if you’re not interested in a liturgical or outward show of religion, it was defeated:
As it says in Col. 2:17, those things are A SHADOW OF THINGS TO COME. You may think The Holy Spirit through The Apostle Paul is chastising that church only, however, these letters were circulated to all churches; even ours. People have been known to fall in love with organized religion and buildings, not being in a relationship with the substance, which is Christ Jesus The LORD.
In Hebrews ten the writer also acknowledges the Law of Moses as “HAVING A SHADOW of the good things to come”. In many of our modern day churches, they are still convinced the Law must be combined with New Testament Grace. This causes members to stay in Christ shadow (which is synonymous with the Law or legalism) much longer than necessary. Unfortunately, some never leave, bound by Romans 7. In other words, they miss out on the blessing of Grace and having a vibrant relationship with Christ. One of the worst symptoms of legalism is having a sin consciousness. Sometimes Believers get in this rut of repeating the same sayings of those who have lived hundreds of years before us. We never really give it much thought. How often have you said or heard preachers say “we’re just sinners save by Grace”? Or, “everybody sins, it’s just a part of our sinful nature”. You are not going to like what I’m about to say, but those words and that type of thinking is “sin consciousness”. In Old Testament times all of those rituals and animal sacrifices were unable to make the worshipers pure. They only served to remind them of their sinfulness. However, in the New Covenant, written is Christ blood has the power to cleanse our conscience. If you don’t want to believe me, here it is written in Christ blood:
Hebrews 9:13 “For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.” This eternal inheritance he speaks of is a lot of things. But thanks be to God that one of those things is freedom from a sinful nature. We can now thrive on His Divine Nature, and divine nature trumps sinful nature:
2 Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
If this doesn’t change the way you think about being “just a sinner saved by Grace”, then you just don’t want to be free. To be continued…
