Children do not automatically become independent adults, responsible citizens and heirs of the Kingdom of God without parental guidance, training, discipline and influence. The parent’s role in the shaping of the child’s mind and character is one of the most sacred and sobering responsibilities. The parental responsibility should not be taken lightly because its success or failure has eternal consequences. Eventually the child will grow up and begin to make individual choices. But while the child is still in your care and still living under your roof, carry out your parental duty so well that even if your child goes astray, both God and the wayward child will not blame you for dereliction of duty. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
