Many people boast about what they used to do and what they used to be. Boasting of past successes is often a desperate attempt to divert people’s attention from current failures. Life is not meant to be lived in the rear-view mirror. You cannot reach your destiny with your back turned towards it. Do not boast about past testimonies – God is in the business of making fresh ones. God is not stuck in ancient history or archeology – find God in contemporary history and follow Him into the limitless possibilities of the untapped future. God is always on the move – move with Him. In this rapidly changing world knowledge changes rapidly and knowledge expires rapidly. Therefore, keep an open mind to new ideas and new and efficient ways of doing things. Read, learn and acquire new skills. Keep challenging yourself to get better each day. True champions are lifetime learners. If you are not constantly innovating, and constantly improving your life, you might be equipped to solve problems of a world that no longer exists. There is too much information to be ignorant about anything. There is too much to learn in this world to park your brains. There are too many problems around you to shelve your skills. There is too much work to be done here and abroad to retire. God is dishonored by idleness and self-imposed ignorance. You can make excuses or make a difference, but you cannot do both. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, …” (Ecclesiastes 9:10) Pray, “God give me work, till my life shall end and life, till my work is done.
